The Barron Delta Mangrove Protection Campaign was launched to protect the mangrove wetland threatened by the proposed redevelopment of the Cairns Airport.

Mangrove wetlands are an endangered ecosystem and integral to the survival of our oceans, commercial and recreational fishing, tourism, and of course the inhabitants of the strange mangrove world.

Hands Up for Mangrove Protection

The current Airport Draft Land Use Plan makes mention of a “movement expansion precinct” that could consume up to 100 hectares of pristine mangroves.

Our request to the Cairns Airport is that they restrict site redevelopment to the area already cleared. The minister for local government will review their land use plan and has the final say on the matter.
